Support FoAT 2025!

Happy Thanksgiving Weekend! On this day, we launch our annual Giving Tuesday campaign and request for your continued support of Friends of Argentine Tango.

We'll send reminders leading up to Giving Tuesday, but you don't have to wait until Tuesday to donate.

Thank you for your support. Please feel free to share our important request with your friends and networks.

Since 2012, Friends of Argentine Tango (FoAT) has been bringing the joy, connection, and health benefits of dance to underserved communities and senior centers across New York City. This year, we are especially proud of our newest program, Adaptango, designed for people coping with Alzheimer’s, Parkinson's and other neurodegenerative conditions, and cancer survivors.

Thanks to your support, 2025 has been an extraordinary year:

Our dedicated team of eight teachers continued to offer 18 weekly free tango classes for seniors across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx.

We kicked off the year in January with a feature interview with our Director, Walter Perez, on WNYC’s Community Champions.

In February, our directors launched Su Casa, a Creative Aging residency for artists.

Faculty member Sandra Antognazzi directed a tango show at Bergen Community College with live music and four FoAT faculty dancers.

In March, Leonardo Sardella and Mariana Parma taught and performed at the prestigious Guggenheim Museum, representing FoAT with excellence.

In May, we celebrated the premiere of Tango Diaries, a new musical-theater production featuring FoAT faculty Walter Perez, Mariana Parma, Leonardo Sardella, and Sandra Antognazzi.

July marked a major milestone: our first Adaptango instructor certification, training 15 tango teachers to work with individuals coping with neurodegenerative conditions and cancer recovery.

In August, we launched a new senior program at RAIN Mount Carmel Senior Center in the Bronx.

September and October brought a full celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, with three artistic residencies (at the YM & YWHA of Inwood, Hudson Guild, and SAGE), 12 workshops, and two live-music shows—supported by grants from LMCC Creative Learning and the West Side Community Fund. We also proudly sponsored the annual NY Queer Tango Weekend festival.

Our Program Director, Leonardo Sardella, performed as a featured dancer with the acclaimed Social Tango Project by Agustina Videla at City Center’s Fall for Dance Festival.

In November, we gathered for our annual fundraising brunch at Chez Josephine—an inspiring afternoon filled with warmth, music by Emiliano Messiez, and performances from our faculty.

In December, we are honored to be invited to perform at the Argentine Embassy, a beautiful way to close our year of service and artistry.

FoAT continues to grow as a leader in educational, inclusive, and community-centered dance programming—bringing joy, movement, and connection to hundreds of New Yorkers.
