Elaine was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and emigrated to the United States with her mother when she was ten years old. She lived in New Jersey and Vermont before she moved to New York City in 1997.
Elaine was a Speech and Language Pathologist in public school systems before becoming a full time mother of two sons. Eventually she returned to teaching, as both a substitute teacher and SLP, as well as teaching English as a second language. Elaine went on to experience other careers. They included owner of a dating service (pre internet), a residential realtor, and a fund raiser for UNICEF.
She has always loved volunteering which began with Lost Pet Society in NJ, tennis tournaments in VT, The Humane Society in NYC, and the Christmas Initiative for UNICEF in New York City. More recently, for the last nine years, Elaine has been volunteering for the women’s organization Bottomless Closet which empowers underserved New York City women in need to enter the workforce and achieve success.
